Thich Nhat Hanh Advice for Healing Emotions and Bad Dreams

This clearly described and quite simple activity from Thich Nhat Hanh for dealing with emotions in waking life can also be really helpful in working with images that arise from our dreams. It can be especially useful advice for healing bad dreams or nightmares.  Accepting the images, regardless of how strange, disturbing or scary they may be, and addressing them with loving kindness can be a great way to tap into the more challenging aspects of our subconscious and our repressed emotions, leading to healing and openness… I particularly like the practice of imagining holding and caring for these images as a mother would a newborn baby. Accepting our own inherent vulnerability, but also our ability to protect, care for and nurture is one of the most healing processes we can engage with.

  1. Thank you, Amy. This post is a loving ministry to your readers. It recalls for me a time long ago when I was wrestling with the shame I felt for the vulnerable little girl in me who had blocked growth. I found myself moved to lie down in a fetal position and wrapping my arms around my body I rocked her and cried for her and loved her. The shame hasn’t returned.

Thich Nhat Hanh is so right.
