The Meaning of Snow in a Dream

Snow in dreams can have many different meanings.  When we dream of elements such as fire, water, ice and snow they can can often relate to our emotions, literally how we “feel” about things.  A dream filled with snow may indicate there is an area of life where we feel cold or emotionally distant about something.  Snow covers like a blanket, and it conceals things.  Snow in dreams can come at periods when we are emotionally hibernating, but this need not necessarily be a bad thing.  Maybe there has been a difficult period and this is the time to retreat inwards to heal.  Or maybe you have felt overwhelmed with feelings in the past, and feel it would be easier and safer to just close off your emotions a while.  When snow means this in dreams, in future dreams look for signs of thawing and new shoots appearing, as this can indicate the period of retreat is coming to an end, the winter of the soul is becoming warmed by the sunlight of new hope and personal growth, and it is time to re-emerge back into the world.

But snow in dreams can mean many other things.  The whiteness and purity of snow can symbolise a period of spiritual cleansing that is profoundly uplifting, especially if there is sunlight, starlight or moonlight shining on it.  These kinds of dreams may also indicate a time of deep emotional peace, a relief from grieving, or a sense of psychologically clearing things that have been distracting and superfluous in life.

A snow storm may indicate that we feel confused, that we cannot see the way we need to progress clearly.   This may be a good time to stop pressing ahead with a certain venture or goal and just wait things out until the situation becomes clearer.  To be buried in snow can be a sign of “feeling snowed under” and perhaps unable to cope with all the demands that we feel are placed on us a particular time. When the environment is hostile, it is wise to seek shelter – and the same is true metaphorically.  Find friends, support or “go within” until the outside world is a kinder place.   Alternatively, dreaming of skiing across snow may indicate that we are not really addressing our deeper feelings, and just “skating across the surface” of an issue we know needs much deeper attention.  If the skiing feeling is liberating though, this may mean coming to terms with some of those deeper issues.

Snow in dreams can also be magical. We know that every snowflake is unique, so to dream of the beauty or individuality of a single snowflake may be a sign of a wonderful appreciation of our own special place in the universe, or an increasing awareness of how uniquely valuable every human being is.

Snow dreams can be soft and gentle, or barren and cold. And just as all snow eventually melts, so too do all feelings change. Snow dreams ask us to consider what is going on inside, what needs to be healed, or strengthened or released, and what we would like to reveal when eventually the sunshine returns to clear the landscape again.

  1. “Snow in dreams can come at periods when we are emotionally hibernating” – Had a dream at an outdoor pool. Liquid water was in the pool and snow was all over the pool deck. I have some (but not all) emotions that need to safely hibernate, and your description is 100% accurate. Thanks!

  2. It is spiritual mostly. The 6th plane

  3. I had a recent dream of standing on the peak of a snowed covered mountain with my arms extended fully out like Jesus. The sun was shining on me I was dressed in summer wear not cold but basking in the sun. I was embraced by the presence of God and the beauty of nature. I assume this has to do with reconciliation of my soul from past abuse. God does speak to us through dreams.

  4. I had a dream of waking up hearing a truck going down the drive.. I looked out the window to see snow.. and a truck trying to go through the drive that had not been plowed.. I thought to myself that person is a bit crazy.. being as there looked to be almost 5 feet of snow, in a place that never snows….. and I calmly returned to my bed.. not seeing anyone there with me.. but feeling that there was someone there.. and that is all I remember…

  5. I saw a dream of snow.I m not familiar with snow here in Sri Lanka.i do not know why it is….

  6. Thank you for this. I live in the Southern hemisphere, where I have only seen snow maybe twice in my life. So to dream of skiing and then to be buried in snow was really odd.

  7. Had a dream that I was laying on the sidewalk, started floating in the air, but when I got too high I went through a thick layer of snow which made it feel like I was really just coming up from underground. Don’t know what that means, but it was insane none the less.

  8. last year my husband passed and this year I left a job. I had a dream that I was in the parking lot of this place where I was employed and there was a lot of snow but 2 people I knew were there and walked away when I thought strange since the parking lot was full of snow. I was able to go to another area where there wasn’t as much snow and when I turned to tell them they were gone. I woke up then.

  9. Snow indicates that you are cold and your blanket fell off, i woke up feeling cold after dreaming to walk barefoot on snow..

  10. I dreamed about standing in the snow watching it fall with a big smile on my face but every now and then catching flakes in my mouth!

I have some insight on my dream and I appreciate your article it was very helpful. I always look for the spiritual side because I don’t dream just normal dreams!

    Thanks so much!

  11. It started snowing real softly in my dream, I was so enchanted and beguiled by it, that I went and got my phone, so’s that I could photo it.

  12. I dreamed a quite snow fall but heavy snow flakes, it was beautiful, I looked out of window when i saw snow i rushed out to enjoy that quite warm heavy snowfall, it felt like enjoyable, stress releasing snow, i was playing on that snowfall and snow kept coming.

  13. I stepped outside in a dream and saw that snow had fallen and covered everything like a blanket. There I stood in the moonlight looking out on all that snow. I wasn’t wearing an overcoat nor shoes but the snow felt warm and comfortable underneath my feet and I wasn’t cold. I noticed the snow was white and pure, no dirt and the air was still / tranquil. I felt peace and awe.

  14. I dreamed that it was in the back garden of my old house, I was outside with my brother, just like childhood times. I remember feeling happy in the snow, spinning around smiling. I remember trying to take an image and share it with the person i like, it got heavier the snowstorm then suddenly the snow melted, and it returned back to a calm green garden again.

  15. Can anyone help me with dream I dream my daughter and I was outside in the snow touching it and the snow was coming down from the sky like a water spout shape my daughter and I was just it and we were happy as we looked at how beautiful the snow is. Can anyone interprete this dream for me.

  16. Very insightful interpretation. My dream last night was about crawling through a snow on a strip of land to the other side. There was a chasm beneath me, so a very deep drop on either side of the strip of land. I piled the snow around me to prevent me from slipping and falling, and made it to the other side, with feelings of relief, triumph and happiness. The challenge seemed a friendly one, and one I was very invested in achieving. I had not choice. I was there from the beginning of the dream.

  17. I always dream about snow. Usually, it snows during the night or late afternoon and I find myself outside in a really confusing environment. Or sometimes I dream to see the weather forecast which indicates that is going to snow even if is summer.

  18. I wish IT would snow or SOMETHING, here in currently HOT Texas/TX.!! heck, even a rainstorm or rainstorms HERE, for a couple of DAYS ALREADY!! (this current weather, ISN’T (normal) this summer, WHAT IS (normal) anymore???)
